In June, this large, beautiful and impressive library also became an efficient and automated one, too. With the help of Geek+'s sorting and picking robots, the library can now handle the high volume of customers reading and borrowing books. Now, the library is able to sort books 10x faster than before, around 1,500 books per hour. The China-Singapore Friendship Library is an important cultural facility in Tianjin, China. The library has a total of nearly 600,000 books, with more than 2,000 readers visiting daily.
Before, the popular library had sorting errors. With manual sorting, books would end up in the wrong place and would sometimes be lost for weeks. During peak periods, piles of unsorted books would remain untouched as library workers needed to physically sort books. In such a large library, an employee's walk to the correct bin would take a while.
Today, the library's intelligent sorting system is convenient and easy to use. Once a reader is done with a book, they simply need to walk over to the return counter. They then click "return book" on the display screen and put the book into the return port.
Once the book is sent down the port, Geek+ sorting robots follow the optimal path to the sorting grid, and determines which area the book needs to be sent to, while avoiding other sorter robots and other obstacles on the way. The S10C drops the book down the correct chute and into a bin on the first floor. Once the bin is full, P-500 picking robots take the bin to a library worker. The worker places the sorted books onto a cart and takes them to their final destination: the correct shelf of the library.
According to the operation data, the system can sort 1,500 books per hour, and the efficiency is more than 10 times that of traditional manual sorting. Sorting robots and P-500 picking robots can be deployed quickly and in stages to ensure a solution can ease business demands in a matter of weeks.
While improving sorting efficiency, the robotic sorting system also has the advantages of zero sorting errors and reliability. Since the sorting robots operate independently, the failure of a single robot will not affect the operation of the entire system.
Geek+'s sorting robots and P-500 picking solution are a solid combination for small or medium-sized parcels as well. Whether your sorting needs are book, parcel or grocery-based, Geek+ has got you covered.
